Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital is rescheduling several elective surgeries the week of Nov. 5 because of an issue that caused surgical instruments to be discolored, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
During a routine quality check of surgical instruments, hospital staff found a slight discoloration of the cleaned and sterilized surgical tools, hospital officials said. The hospital conducted lab testing on the instruments and did not find indicators of infectious agents.
Hospital staff did not perform surgeries with the discolored instruments, and no patients were harmed, according to hospital officials.
Tampa General is canceling or rescheduling some elective surgeries. It is not clear how many surgeries are affected.
Delays in obtaining sterile instruments have canceled some surgeries at the hospital, but hospital staff expect to be back on schedule by Nov. 12.
