Officials at Parkland Memorial Hospital, based in Dallas, have decided to not publicly release a consultant's report that outlined patient safety deficiencies and improvement steps at the hospital, according to an NBCDWF report.
Parkland Memorial has been under intense public and federal scrutiny since reports broke out regarding the hospital's patient safety violations last year. The hospital was in danger of losing its Medicare status for failing to correct some of those deficiencies but agreed to enter into a systems improvement agreement with CMS.
Under that agreement, a consultant, Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group, was chosen to help the hospital rectify its deficiencies, allowing the hospital to maintain its federal funding. The consulting group outlined its findings on Parkland Memorial's shortfalls and action steps in a report that was recently submitted to CMS.
In January, Thomas Royer, MD, interim CEO of Parkland Memorial, announced the action plan would be publicly released. However, the hospital's board of managers announced it would not release the report in order to protect the patients and avoid legal action, according to the report.
