Baylor Healthcare in Dallas and Cayuga Medical Center in Dryden, N.Y., are the latest hospitals to implement smoking bans on hospital property.
A tobacco-free policy will become effective at all Cayuga Medical Center properties, including its convenient care centers and health and fitness centers, on May 31. In addition, all designated areas that previously allowed smoking will be tobacco-free as well, according to an Ithaca Independent report.
Baylor Healthcare System has also boosted its efforts to discourage smoking. Starting this year, the organization no longer hires smokers. Current employees may take advantage of smoking cessation services, according to a First Coast News report.
These newly implemented policies reflect a trend in the healthcare industry, whereby hospitals and other healthcare providers are revamping efforts to promote population health among its employees and community members.
