Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico and the District of Columbia, are the only areas of the nation reporting moderate to high levels of flu activity, according to CDC data as of Nov. 3.
Nationwide flu activity in most states remains between minimal and low, but hospitalizations are still up slightly and are continuing to go up in most parts of the country, according to CDC data. In the latest data, for the week ending Oct. 28, 1,607 patients with laboratory-confirmed flu cases were admitted to a hospital.
Four more notes:
- Both influenza A and influenza B continue to co-circulate. The majority strain is still influenza A, accounting for 70.1% of all cases. Influenza B currently accounts for 29.9% of cases in the U.S.
- Puerto Rico is currently reporting high flu activity.
- So far in the 2023-2024 flu season, only one pediatric death has occurred.
- H1N1 is the subtype that makes up the majority of influenza A cases.
