Yale School of Nursing creates infection prevention tool for long-term care facilities

A team at Yale School of Nursing in Orange, Conn., worked with the New York Academy of Medicine in New York City and a hand hygiene company to develop a collection of infection prevention resources for long-term care facilities, Yale Daily News reported Oct. 3.

The Infection Prevention Compendium for Long-Term Care Facilities tool consolidates key infection prevention information for medical professionals in one place. It's broken up into four parts that focus on tools and resources for direct care providers; administrators and support staff; international and U.S. resources; and a summary of New York Academy of Medicine reports and teaching tools.

"If you're a director of nursing, you do not have time to do all this … for example, on the Yale side there were a lot of people pooling all this together," said Mario Rubano, policy associate for the NYAM Center of Healthy Aging. "[This] is a huge time-saving initiative for nursing home staff," he told the news outlet.

Yale School of Nursing collaborated with the New York Academy of Medicine and Saraya, a Japan-based hand hygiene company, to develop the resource compendium.
