Pittsburgh nursing home chain to close 1 campus by end of year

A Pittsburgh-based nursing home system is seeking approval from the state Department of Health to close two facilities on its campus in Mount Lebanon, Pa., by the end of the year, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Sept. 14.

Closing a nursing home requires a 60-day notice to residents, but Baptist Senior Family has not set a firm date. Staff, residents and families were told the 126-bed skilled nursing unit and 54-bed personal care facility will close, and CEO Timothy Myers told the publication the hope is to have all residents moved by Christmastime.

Most of the employees are expected to find other positions within the system; however, 93 residents will be displaced.

Baptist Senior Family operates two campuses in the Pittsburgh area. The closure of the Mount Lebanon facilities represent a loss of two-thirds of its long-term care beds.
