The Hevolution Foundation, which funds research in health span science, recently awarded Northwestern University $32.4 million over five years to study healthy aging.
The study will focus on proteostasis, or the loss of protein homeostasis, which is a common feature of aging. Proteostasis is a growing field of geroscience, Hevolution said in a Sept. 18 news release.
Results from the Evanston, Ill.-based university's research can help discover targets for pharmacological approaches to "rebalance protein folding and degradation in aging," the release said.
