Raleigh (N.C.) Rehabilitation Center has been hit with a $31,320 fine from CMS after an investigation revealed that conditions in the facility had subjected patients to immediate jeopardy, according to an Oct. 10 report from WRAL.
The investigation into the rehab center was prompted by the July death of a quadriplegic resident who fell out of bed after a nursing assistant left the room briefly and hit his skull on the floor, which resulted in a hematoma, according to reports obtained by WRAL.
For this type of incident, CMS noted the facility was not required to take corrective action. However, the center did implement additional training for staff to prevent future sentinel events.
Becker's reached out to Raleigh Rehabilitation Center to request a comment on the matter and will update this story if new information becomes available.
