Lawsuits against nursing homes in New York for their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic are piling up as liability protections are repealed and statutory deadlines to file the suits loom, The Wall Street Journal reported April 9.
The majority of the lawsuits accuse facilities of "failing to properly curb the spread of disease, identify infected residents and treat their illnesses," according to the Journal.
Joseph Ciaccio, a New York malpractice attorney, told the Journal his law firm has brought 48 lawsuits against nursing homes, most of which were filed in the past month.
"We're trying to preserve the claims for our clients before running out of time," Mr. Ciaccio told the Journal.
