Best, worst states for RN turnover in nursing homes

North Dakota has the lowest average turnover rate for registered nurses while New Mexico has the highest, CMS found.

CMS collected data from each state and territory related to quality measures, staffing, deficiencies and fines. It found the national average turnover rate for registered nurses was 50.4.

Here are the states with the lowest and highest average turnover rates for registered nurses:

Lowest turnover rate

North Dakota: 37.8

South Dakota: 39.7

Wyoming: 40.6

Delaware: 41.6

West Virginia: 42.6

 

Highest turnover rate

New Mexico: 64.2

Texas: 60.8

Oklahoma: 59.1

Missouri: 58.2

Oregon: 56.4
