Here are five nursing home policy updates Becker's has covered since Aug. 23:
- California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill Sept. 27 aimed at closing a loophole that allows nursing home operators to run a facility without receiving a license.
- For the first time, officials, researchers and the public can see data about who owns Medicare-certified nursing homes across nursing home locations. HHS is making more ownership data publicly available.
- HHS released an inaugural national strategy to support family caregivers Sept. 21.
- CMS and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau released a joint letter Sept. 8 stating that nursing care facilities may not require a third-party caregiver to personally guarantee payment of a nursing home resident's bill as a condition of the resident's admission to the facility.
- HHS awarded $25 million to Illinois, Kansas, New Hampshire, American Samoa and Puerto Rico to expand access to home- and community-based services through Medicaid's Money Follows the Person program.
