Here are 32 nursing homes that are set to close or are in the works:
- Fairmont, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine's Fairmont Medical Center is on track to open a 30-bed nursing home in the fall.
- Three Ohio nursing homes are closing and displacing roughly 200 residents:
- Highlands Post Acute on Sherman Avenue in Norwood
- Judson Care Center on Harrison Avenue in Westwood
- Advanced Rehab of Clifton Park, operating as Solivita of Oak Pavilion on Oak Street in Walnut Hills.
- Berwick, Pa.-based Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center completed nearly $1 million in renovations.
- Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans' Services received a $164 million federal grant to aid in constructing a veterans nursing home.
- Hartford, Conn.-based Hughes Health and Rehabilitation, a 170-bed nursing home, will close after being in operation for more than 50 years.
- Nazareth, Pa.-based Gracedale Nursing Home has reopened one of its rehab units.
- Commons at Tall Pines in Belfast, Maine, will close permanently before summer due to staffing shortages.
- Urbana, Ill.-based University Rehab will close in mid-June due to financial, census, regulatory and operational challenges.
- Mason City-based MercyOne North Iowa will close its hospice facility April 17 amid industry pressures of inflation and high labor costs.
- West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Northeast Health Group is closing four Massachusetts nursing homes:
- Willimansett Center East nursing home in Chicopee
- Chapin Center in Springfield
- Governor's Center in Westfield
- Willimansett Center West in Chicopee
- Danbury, Conn.-based Nuvance Health is closing its Thompson House skilled nursing facility in Rhinebeck, N.Y.
- Florida's Collier County is setting aside $30 million to open a veterans nursing home.
- Crookston, Minn.-based Riverview Memory Care will close May 31.
- Rock Rapids (Iowa) Care Center transferred residents in February and closed the facility. The management company said the closure is temporary due to staff shortages.
- Johnstown, Pa.-based The Villa Crest Rehabilitative Nursing Facility forfeited its license to the state health department and plans to transform into a personal care home.
- Rossville, Ga.-based Mary and Martha's Personal Care was forced to close with only 24 hours' notice due to staff shortages and financial struggles.
- Select Medical Corp and Atlantic City, N.J.-based AtlantiCare announced plans for a new rehabilitation hospital.
- Pittsburgh-based UPMC Children's Hospital opened a new rehabilitation unit with 12 private rooms.
- Newton, Mass.-based Blupoint Healthcare purchased Vantage of South Hadley (Mass.), renaming it Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation, and is already taking in displaced patients from four closed nursing homes.
- Rock Rapids (Iowa) Care Center is temporarily closed due to staffing issues.
- Dallas-based Reunion Rehabilitation Hospitals is opening four new inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in Arizona, Texas and Florida.
- Miles City, Mont.-based Friendship Villa closed in December, making it the 12th older adult care facility to close in Montana in 2022.
- Springdale-based Central Arkansas Nursing Centers plans to build Mill Creek Nursing Facility, a 106,251-square-foot facility for 142 residents.
- Northeast Health Group is closing four long-term care nursing facilities across Western Massachusetts due to a state mandate that limits residents to two per bedroom, displacing 300 residents.
- Aultman said Feb. 1 that it will cease operations at two skilled nursing facilities: the Transitional Care Center at Aultman Woodlawn in Canton, Ohio, and the Community Care Center at Aultman Alliance (Ohio) Community Hospital.
- The owner of Blue Care Homes in Iowa notified state regulators Jan. 23 that it is ending operations at four nursing facilities and two assisted living facilities in Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Winterset and Maquoketa.
