A fire at Memphis, Tenn.-based Feels Like Home Senior Lifestyle Residences resulted in the death of one resident and injured two others, ABC affiliate WATN reported Dec. 29.
At least two fire stations responded to the scene. The cause of the fire is tied to a first-floor unit, according to the Memphis Fire Department. The fire also caused an estimated $1 million in property loss and another $500,000 in loss of contents, according to a Fire Department estimate.
The two injured residents are in stable condition, according to a representative from the nursing home.
"Feels Like Home Senior Lifestyle Residences suffered a tragic loss Thursday night," the representative told WATN. "One of our residents died in the fire. The two hospitalized seniors have been stepped down to stable condition. We are heartbroken at the loss of life because every senior is precious to us, but we are so very grateful that our remaining seniors are safe and secure at this time. We want to thank the residents, staff, firefighters, police and anyone else who assisted in the evacuation and relocation of our seniors."
