Health officials on Sept. 24 declared a public health emergency in Massachusetts amid reports of dozens of vaping-related illnesses in the state, according to ABC affiliate WCVB.
Massachusetts will ban the sale of all vaping products for four months as part of the emergency declaration. The ban, which applies to all online and retail sales of vaping products, will remain in effect until Jan. 25, 2020.
Massachusetts has seen 61 confirmed and probable cases of severe lung injuries linked to vaping as of Sept. 24.
New York became the first state to ban the sale of most flavored vaping products Sept. 17. California health officials also issued a state advisory Sept. 24, urging residents to stop using vaping products.
As of Sept. 19, the CDC has reported 530 confirmed and probable vaping-related lung illnesses in 38 states and one U.S. territory.
