The National Institutes of Health is awarding cash prizes to the best videos on how heritage and tradition in American Indian and Alaska Native communities inform wellness and what research is needed to improve health within tribal communities.
The video challenge aims to celebrate the tradition of storytelling to showcase how Native American culture promotes health and wellbeing, as well as what health and wellness needs are still unmet, according to the announcement in the Federal Register.
Videos must be under five minutes long, use English or English captions, and include at least one member of a federally recognized tribe. The winning entry will be awarded a $4,000 cash prize and travel costs to attend the next NIH Tribal Consultation Advisory Committee meeting. Second place receives $3,000, third place receives $2,000 and two honorable mentions will each take home $500. Entries are due Jan. 31, 2017, and winners will be announced March 6, 2017.
