California to spend $20M on anti-vaping awareness campaign

California plans to launch a $20 million public awareness campaign next month regarding the dangers of vaping, NBC News reports.

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the awareness campaign as part of an executive order Sept. 16. The campaign comes amid a national outbreak of vaping-related illnesses, at least 63 of which have been confirmed in California.

Mr. Newsom has called on lawmakers to create legislation to ban flavored e-cigarettes and urged public health officials to see if warning signs could be set up in places where vaping products are sold.
