California has joined a growing list of states taking measures to prevent the sales of flavored e-cigarettes, according to The Wall Street Journal.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom said during a Sept. 16 press conference that he would sign a bill banning flavored e-cigarettes if the state legislature sent him one.
Although Mr. Newsom lacks the power to ban sales of e-cigarettes through an executive order, he did sign one directing state agencies to crack down on illegal and counterfeit vaping products, begin a new public awareness campaign and create recommendations for new warning signs on product advertisements, according to the WSJ.
The governor also signed a bill increasing age-verification requirements for purchasing tobacco-related items online or by mail.
Actions taken by states to ban or reduce flavored e-cigarette sales come after seven people have died of a vape-related illness.
