Bon Secours Richmond (Va.) Health System and Richmond-based United Methodist Family Services plan to expand a collaborative care model aimed at improving access to pediatric mental healthcare, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The model was launched last year with the installation of a pediatric behavioral health clinician in Richmond, Va.-based Laburnum Medical Center. It was expanded to the local St. Mary's Hospital. The program enables providers to identify children at risk and provide better access to mental healthcare.
Later this year, the systems plan to expand the collaborative model to Mechanicsville, Va.-based Lee Davis Pediatrics and in the Bon Secours Hampton Roads region, according to the report.
"The Bon Secours/UMFS partnership promotes a strong collaboration between medical professionals and mental health clinicians to ensure children and families receive a comprehensive, coordinated plan of care at the most critical time when early warning signs are present," Marcy Johnson, UMFS' vice president of programs, said in the report.
