Cape Regional Medical Center gets $3M gift to revamp emergency department

Middle Township, N.J.-based Cape Regional Medical Center received a $3 million gift to revamp and rename its emergency department, The Press of Atlantic City reported March 29.

The donation will go toward the cost of expanding the department from 33 beds to 42. The emergency department will be renamed the Larry L. Luing Emergency Department to honor a former area resident.

The donation will also go toward the center's radiology department expansion, which will include a new interventional radiology suite, CT scan, special procedures suite and fluoroscopy suite.

The total cost of the upcoming work is estimated at $19.9 million and expected to take seven months to complete.

The expansion plans are still awaiting approval from the state Department of Health and the Department of Community Affairs.
