President Donald Trump met with pharmaceutical executives at the White House this week, according to The Hill.
Four things to know:
1. The executives, including Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America CEO Steve Ubl, used the July 24 meeting to voice opposition to the recently unveiled Senate bill to lower drug prices. PhRMA was joined by representatives from Pfizer and Amgen.
The executives don't like the Senate bill's price controls in Medicare Part D or the absence of "immediate and meaningful savings for patients at the pharmacy counter," they told the president, according to Politico
2. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., Rep. Mark Meadows R-N.C., and HHS Secretary Alex Azar were also at the meeting.
3. "At leader McCarthy's request, the president hosted a meeting with PhRMA," the White House told The Hill. "The president does not intend to negotiate with PhRMA, but listened respectfully."
4. The Trump administration has made lowering drug prices a priority. It has released several proposals, and President Trump is considering an executive order.
