Capsule Corp., a New York City-based online pharmacy startup, plans to expand to other large cities after raising $200 million, according to Bloomberg.
Capsule's online platform allows patients to get prescription drugs delivered to them within two hours, offers easily-digestible information on copayst and and lets patients ask pharmacists questions over the phone, on the web or via an app.
Physicians are able to set up refill preferences through the app and also have the ability to choose alternate drugs for patients whose insurance may not cover certain drugs.
Capsule currently has 60,000 users in New York City.
Eric Kinariwala, founder and CEO of Capsule, told Bloomberg that Capsule is in the process of applying for pharmacy licenses in additional states and that it will be available in all major cities within the next 18 to 36 months.
This comes as major retail pharmacies, like CVS, are expanding their delivery options and other services to compete with startups like Capsule.
