Bankruptcy judge OKs sale of Shopko pharmacies to 20 drugstore, grocery chains

A U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge approved the sale of Shopko's prescription files and related pharmacy assets to more than 20 drugstore and grocery chains Jan. 18, according to Forbes.

Shopko, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this month, said it is leaving the pharmacy business to shore up its finances. The Green Bay, Wis.-based retailer plans to auction off about 120 pharmacy locations to generate $52 million.

Now that the sale is approved, Walgreens will acquire 63 of Shopko's pharmacy locations. Other successful bidders included, CVS, Rite Aid, Albertsons and Kroger.
