9 recent drug, device recalls

Medical device and drug recalls, whether voluntary or forced by the FDA, ensure patient safety. Here are nine reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last month:

1. Bayer recalls 990 vials of biologic drug that treats serious bleeding
Bayer is recalling two lots, or about 990 vials, of its biologic drug that helps prevent and control hemorrhagic episodes in patients with hemophilia A.

2. Altaire pharmaceuticals expands recall of OTC ophthalmic products
Altaire Pharmaceuticals is expanding its recall of over-the-counter eyedrops and ointments due to sterility concerns. 

3. 30 CVS Health products recalled
Altaire Pharmaceuticals is recalling 30 over-the-counter products sold at CVS due to sterility concerns. 

4. Eyedrops, ointments sold at Walgreens, Walmart recalled
Altaire Pharmaceuticals is recalling several lots of over-the-counter eyedrops and ointments exclusively sold at Walmart and Walgreens due to sterility concerns.

5. Glass particles force recall of chemo injections
Fresenius Kabi has recalled two lots of its chemotherapy drug fluorouracil after glass particulate was discovered in five vials. 

6. PharMEDium recalls 45 lots of hydromorphone tainted with allergen
PharMEDium Services is recalling 45 lots of its injectable hydromorphone because they were classified as sulfite-free, but the products contain sulfites. 

7. Medtronic recalls insulin pumps that can be wirelessly hacked
Medtronic is recalling certain MiniMed insulin pumps due to cybersecurity concerns, the FDA  warned patients and healthcare providers June 27.

8. Macleods recalls 32 lots of losartan
Macleods Pharmaceuticals is recalling 32 lots of losartan potassium tablets and losartan potassium/hydrochlorothiazide tablets. 

9. Endotracheal tubes recalled after 4 reported deaths
Teleflex has issued a global recall of several lots of its Hudson RCI Sheridan endotracheal tubes after receiving four reports of death and additional reports of serious injury, according to a notice on the FDA's website.
