Two lawmakers have accused three generic drugmakers of "coordinated obstruction" and "apparent efforts to stonewall" a 2014 probe into their pricing strategies, according to CNBC.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., have asked Mylan, Teva and Heritage Pharmaceuticals to fork over internal documents about allegations that the drugmakers attempted to stonewall their 2014 investigation.
Mr. Cummings and Mr. Sanders said they decided to renew the probe into the three companies after a lawsuit filed in May by 44 state attorneys general claimed the drugmakers worked to halt the lawmaker's 2014 investigation.
The initial 2014 probe by Mr. Cummings and Mr. Sanders sought information about the escalating prices of generic medicines.
"Not only did your company's apparent obstruction undermine our investigation, but it may have caused further harm to patients and healthcare providers by delaying the discovery of evidence about the companies' price-fixing," Mr. Cummings and Mr. Sanders wrote in letters to the drugmakers.
