Inmate escapes North Carolina hospital in handcuffs

An inmate escaped from Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Oct. 17 while still wearing handcuffs, WRAL News reported.

Zaire Mclean, 23, was in custody on charges of larceny of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was taken to the hospital for unknown reasons and escaped around 8:32 p.m. He was wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs at the time of his escape. Police said he was in possession of a firearm and warned local residents to stay indoors.

Mr. Mclean was located and captured shortly after midnight.

It is not known how he was able to escape, the report said.
