Virginia hospitals are helping treat at least 51 people who were injured in a 69-vehicle pileup on Interstate 64 Dec. 22, The New York Times reports.
In a Facebook post, Virginia State Police said no one was killed in the accident, which happened shortly before 8 a.m. in York County, Virginia.
The injured were taken to Riverside Doctors' Hospital in Williamsburg, Va.; Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center; and VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Va.
Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va., also treated some of the injured, the Times said. Eleven of the injuries were classified as serious.
Peter Glagola, a spokesperson at Riverside Doctors' Hospital, told the Times that the number of patients treated may increase.
"Some patients refused treatment on scene and might come in later," he said.
The pileup occurred due to "icy conditions on the bridge and severe fog" on both the westbound and then the eastbound lanes of I-64, the state police Facebook post states.
No charges have been filed, and several crash investigations are taking place.
