Texas hospital to shutter labor and delivery unit

College Station (Texas) Medical Center will close its labor and delivery unit July 16 — a change that will come as part of the hospital's new strategic direction, according to KBTX.

While childbirth services will stop, the hospital will still offer some women's services such as diagnostic imaging and gynecologic surgery.

The hospital attributed the childbirth unit closure to the evolving healthcare industry that is pushing the hospital to improve operations and focus on the facility's most widely used programs.

"We understand this may cause some concern for women who planned to deliver at our hospital," a hospital statement reads. "We will work with them and their physician to transition their care to another nearby facility of their choice."
