San Francisco General Hospital is awaiting approval from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to expand a nearby garage and alleviate a serious parking problem, according to a report from The Examiner.
Thanks, in part, to a $75 million donation from Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, MD, SFGH is building a new hospital and trauma center. The construction will eliminate some existing parking spaces at SFGH, further exacerbating the parking problem.
In addition to expanding a nearby parking garage, the hospital plans to expand bicycle paths and public transit access.
Even is SFMTA approves all of the measures, the hospital will likely still face a parking problem, meaning the hospital may lose some of its competitive edge to other hospitals in the area, according to the report.
