Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo., recently invested $4 million into emergency department renovations, and it is already seeing decreased wait times and better overall patient flow, according to a Colorado Springs Gazette report.
The renovation changed the layout of the ED so patients would not have to meander throughout the facility, and it also added four rooms to accommodate the growing ED volumes, which have increased an average of 5 percent annually. In total, Penrose Hospital's ED sees about 125 patients per day.
All 31 ED rooms are now private, and a new greeting station was seen as the first step to improve patient flow in the ED, according to the report.
