Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts announced Oct. 21 the state will lift its ban on elective surgeries effective Oct. 22, citing a declining number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients, according to ABC affiliate KETV.
COVID-19 patients are occupying less than 10 percent of hospital beds in Nebraska, according to the report.
Elective surgeries have been paused since Aug. 29, but some systems are still being cautious.
"CHI Health has limited elective surgeries throughout the pandemic when necessary due to the need for space and/or staff," a spokesperson for CHI Health said in a statement. "We will continue to monitor the situation daily, but it's our goal to perform elective procedures when possible."
