Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic will close its rural health clinic in Waukon, Iowa, on Dec. 14, according to the Post Bulletin.
The health system is closing the clinic after struggling to recruit physicians, according to the report.
"This decision was not made lightly, and reflects the changing landscape and challenges facing rural health care nationwide," Eric Erickson, vice-chair of administration for the Southwest Wisconsin Region of Mayo Clinic Health System said in a release. "We have been actively recruiting physicians to this practice for many years. Attracting physicians to rural clinics has become increasingly difficult as more physicians seek employment opportunities that offer greater work-life balance."
This is the second clinic closure Mayo has announced in recent months. In August, the health system announced plans to close its clinic in La Crescent, Minn.
