Emergency personnel responded to reports of an active shooter at the hospital on the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio Aug. 2. However, the threat was unfounded, cincinnati.com reports.
In an Aug. 2 statement posted on Twitter, Wright-Patterson Air Force officials said base emergency responders arrived at Wright-Patterson Medical Center after receiving reports of an active shooter. The call came during a scheduled installation exercise, which included an active shooter scenario, that took place at a separate location nearby.
Officials said upon investigation, it was determined an unknown individual called 911 believing the scheduled exercise to be the real thing. Base EMS responders swept the area and cleared the entire hospital, eventually declaring the area safe.
Base officials issued an all-clear around 2:30 p.m. the same day, but advised personnel to avoid the hospital, cincinnati.com reports.
The incident prompted local schools to go on lockdown while officials investigated the situation at the base, ABC-22 Now reports. The lockdown at the schools was lifted at 2:15 p.m.
