Dignity Health announces $220M systemwide improvement project: 3 things to know

San Francisco-based Dignity Health has announced a significant $220 million improvement project impacting all 39-hospitals across three states.

Here are three things to know about the improvements.

1. The improvements will flow from five design directives that link directly to patient needs:

  • Provide a clean, uncluttered and safe environment.
  • Anticipate and accommodate.
  • Clearly inform and simplify.
  • Remove barriers to human connection.
  • Interpret healing in unexpected ways.

2. The multiphase improvements are campuswide, spanning patient rooms, emergency departments, nurse's stations, family and surgery waiting areas, main lobbies, parking areas, gardens and common areas.

3. Dignity has internal, external and infrastructure improvements planned, including the following:

  • Refurbish patient rooms with new flooring, surfaces and ceiling tiles.
  • Renovate staff and physician lounges, including flooring, lighting, furniture, restrooms, showers and locker facilities.
  • Installation of a branded "Hello" desk immediately upon entering the lobby from the exterior.
  • In the cafeteria, installation of a "Wellness Wall" that incorporates a digital monitor and acrylic panels which together combine to articulate healthy eating choices and how to incorporate them into a person's life.
  • In stairwells and corridors, upgraded lighting with efficient fixtures and color corrected lamps improves visual acuity for visitors and staff and thus safety.
  • Increase exterior lighting levels.
