St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center, a 408-bed facility in Pueblo, Colo., will close its 12-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation unit Aug. 31, according to The Pueblo Chieftain.
St. Mary-Corwin hospital is owned and operated by Centennial, Colo.-based Centura Health.
Officials said several factors contributed to the decision, including a "low patient census, shifting payer mix, new competitors in the market and major infrastructure challenges," according to the report.
The facility will continue to provide physical, speech and occupational therapy for other inpatient units.
Approximately 20 employees will be affected by the closure. Officials said the hospital is working with the affected individuals to find alternate positions elsewhere at the hospital, or at other rehabilitation centers or Centura Health facilities. Eligible employees will receive severance pay with benefits continuation in addition to career guidance services.
