CMS launches app to outline services covered under Medicare

CMS has launched the "What's Covered" app to let Original Medicare patients and caregivers see whether Medicare covers a medical item or service.

Original Medicare is coverage managed by the federal government. Generally, there's a cost for each service.

Consumers can use the app to more easily get accurate Original Medicare coverage information in the physician's office, hospital or anywhere else they use their mobile device.

The app is part of the CMS eMedicare initiative launched last year to provide beneficiaries with cost and quality information.

The initiative is one of several "focused on modernizing Medicare and empowering patients with information they need to get the best value from their Medicare coverage," said CMS Administrator Seema Verma. "President Trump is delivering on his commitment to Medicare by modernizing tools that deliver health information in the most convenient way possible. This new app is the next in a suite of products designed to give consumers more access and control over their Medicare information."

The app is available for free in Google Play and the Apple App Store.
