New Cancer Center at Cleveland's University Hospitals Designed to Boost OR Efficiency

A new cancer center at University Hospitals in Cleveland features innovative technology, such as hybrid PET-CT scanners and a PET-MRI scanner, to enhance efficiency in its operating rooms, according to a Cleveland Plain Dealer report.

The surgery suite at the UH Seidman Cancer Center features an operating room next door to a room with an MRI. This way, surgeons will be able to see images from the MRI while a patient is still undergoing surgery simply by moving the patient to the adjoined room. If the MRI detects residual tissue, the patient can immediately return to the operating room while still under anesthesia for the tissue to be removed.

The new center will also feature anesthesiologists in closer proximity to the radiology department, which will increase efficiency.
