Varicose veins, which can cause poor blood flow, were traditionally remedied by a stripping method; however, new alternatives allow quicker recoveries for patients, according to a news report by The Republic.
The stripping method required numerous incisions near the groin, knee and ankles to literally "rip out" the varicose veins, said Matthew Casey, MD, an interventional radiologist with MedXray. The stripping process could require an overnight stay in hospitals and a long road to recovery.
Now laser technology allows patients to undergo varicose vein removal and recover more quickly. Laser treatments essentially damage the vein before it is absorbed into the body was debris, according to the news report.
