Home training using inexpensive trainer boxes may be an effective way to retain and improve laparoscopic skills, according to research published in the American Journal of Surgery.
For the study, 20 residents were enrolled in either home training with inexpensive, self-contained trainer boxes or simulation center training using standard video trainers. Results showed no difference between the two groups on the post-test and the retention test, but the home-trained group did practice more, which was associated with a higher suture retention score.
