5 recent oncology study findings

Here are five oncology studies covered by Becker's since Oct. 17:

  1. Houston-based University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center researchers found 62 percent of women with two types of early-stage breast cancer responded well to chemotherapy and could forgo surgery.

  2. Researchers found physicians discuss sexual health with only 13 percent of women going through cancer treatment, compared with 89 percent of men.

  3. Oral anti-cancer drugs are an increasingly prescribed form of treatment. However, studies found that 10 percent to 20 percent of patients never received the prescription, and New York-based researchers set out to discover why.

  4. U.K. researchers discovered a new test for cervical cancer that is more accurate and could predict breast and ovarian cancers.

  5. A JAMA Network Open study found participating in Medicare's Oncology Care Model was not associated with decreased prescribing of novel cancer therapies.
