Healthcare licenses in Illinois can take up to four to six weeks to be sent, according to The Telegraph, an Illinois-based outlet.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation has improved its process, but the speed of sending licenses to physicians and other healthcare professionals is lacking, according to Timothy Kinsey, DMSc, president of the Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants.
Illinois Rep. Bill Hauter, MD, told the news outlet that healthcare workers are choosing to work in other states because of this issue.
Mario Treto Jr., the secretary of the department, said the delays are because of outdated technology.
"The system is from the last century, it is from the 1990s," Mr. Treto told The Telegraph. "The only way for this crisis to be solved is for IDFPR to obtain the necessary approval to put in place a new system."
