Trinity Rock Island Hospital in Rock Island, Ill., is underway with its emergency department expansion and improvement project.
The construction project began in June and includes a 90,000 square foot and three-story expansion of the emergency department and Heart Center. The new emergency department will also feature a Crisis Stabilization Unit for Behavioral Health. The construction is the first major building project of Trinity Rock Island Hospital since it was first built in 1972.
A Moline, Ill., couple has donated $1 million to help with the emergency department expansion. The gift, presented by Lawrence and Marilyn Matteson, is the largest cash gift in UnityPoint Health Trinity's history.
The Mattesons have a history of donating to medical centers. They donated $10 million to Rochester, Minn.,-based Mayo Clinic for its proton beam therapy program in 2012.
The Trinity Rock Island construction project is expected to be complete in summer of 2015.
