NIH to Grant $24M per Year for Biomedical Data Analysis

The NIH announced that it will provide $24 million a year for four years to fund the development of a half-dozen Big Data to Knowledge Centers of Excellence.

These interdisciplinary centers will be investigator-initiated and will improve the research community's ability to utilize large datasets through central information management as well as through education on big data usage for students and researchers.

The grants are part of NIH's Big Data to Knowledge initiative, begun in December 2012 to support use of large data. According to the NIH's news release, this funding opportunity is the first of several that will be announced in the coming months.

Applications for the grants will be due on Nov. 20, 2013. For more information, including information on a webinar for prospective program applicants, click here
