Piedmont Hospital, a 481-bed facility in Fayetteville, Ga., is challenging a proposal by one-hospital Southern Regional Health System in Riverdale, Ga., to offer open-heart surgery, according to a report by the Citizen.
Ron Dodson, chairman of Southern Regional, which oversees 331-bed Southern Regional Medical Center, said more than 500 residents in the area had to travel to downtown Atlanta for open-heart surgery last year.
