A proposed agreement for Swedish Health Services to take over administration of Stevens Hospital in Edmonds, Wash., is being reviewed by the state Department of Health, according to a report by the Herald.
As part of the deal, Swedish Health Services, which operates 1,245-bed Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, would spend $90-$150 million on investments and improvements, such as implementation of an electronic medical record system.
The 217-bed, county-run hospital had been running deficits for years, but in 2009 Stevens logged its best financial year ever, with operating profits of $11.5 million.
