UT Southwestern Medical Center to Train Physicians at Austin Hospitals

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas reached an agreement to train around 170 medical residents at two Austin hospitals that are part of the Seton Family of Hospitals, according to a report in The Dallas Morning News.

UT Southwestern currently trains around 1,260 residents and fellows annually at several hospitals in the Dallas area, according to the report. The new agreement will add a medical presence to the UT system, whose flagship in Austin is a law school.

The 170 residents are currently with the UT Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. UT said in the report that it has no plans to build a medical school in Austin associated with UT Southwestern at this time.

Seton is paying for the initiative, which also includes joint research projects among Seton, UT Southwestern and UT Austin, according to the report.
