According to an American Hospital Association survey of 1,100 healthcare executives, the top six priorities of a hospital's executive team include:
- Improve cost containment and efficiency
- Increase clinical integration and improve care coordination
- Improve care quality and patient safety
- Integrate IT systems
- Foster innovation
- Increase patient engagement
These priorities will not come easily, however. "Management in hospital C-suites must be strategic as the challenges in the healthcare landscape continue to grow," wrote IntelliCentrics' Greg Goyne in a recent blog post. "Increased government regulation, lower reimbursements and an aging population are just three of the obstacles healthcare administrators face in the coming decades."
