House Republicans are considering refusing to increase the country's debt limit unless the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is delayed, according to a report from The Hill.
Federal lawmakers must approve a debt limit increase this fall to make sure the government can meet its obligations, according to the report. Congressional representatives are currently on recess for August and will return in September.
This new potential strategy follows Republican threats to shut down the government unless the PPACA is defunded. Last month, GOP lawmakers urged leaders in both the House and Senate to not support a government funding bill unless it defunds the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Congress needs to approve a spending bill by Oct. 1 to prevent a shutdown.
