PPACA Could Result in 1M Fewer Employed Americans

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act could result in roughly a million fewer employed Americans, according to a Forbes report.

The number comes from two sources. First, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that around 800,000 people will voluntarily leave the labor force because they no longer have to work for benefits. Second, more than 110,000 low-wage workers — but potentially many more — may be put out of work because large companies do not want to provide health insurance or pay the penalty for not providing insurance.

Under the PPACA, a $2,000 fine per full-time employee will kick in when more than 30 employees are not covered starting in 2014.
