Earlier this month, HHS announced more than 8 million people had signed up for health plans through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges, surpassing the Congressional Budget Office's initial projection of 7 million for the first year.
However, public approval of the PPACA has remained low, according to an Associated Press-Gfk online poll. Of the 1,354 Americans surveyed from May 16 to 19, 43 percent oppose the healthcare reform law, a percentage that has remained unchanged since March. Twenty-eight percent support the law, up slightly from 26 percent in March. Meanwhile, 28 percent neither support nor oppose the PPACA, compared with 30 percent of those polled in March.
Additionally, 55 percent said they felt the operation of the health insurance exchanges during the first open enrollment period went not too or not at all well. Only 7 percent feel the PPACA marketplace operations went extremely or very well, according to the poll.
