Poll: Public Still Holds Mostly Negative View of PPACA

The public opinion regarding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act has maintained its negative slant this month, although a majority of Americans still opposed defunding the law, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation Poll.

DoctorThe poll found 42 percent of Americans expressed an unfavorable view of the PPACA and 37 percent view it unfavorably. Those percentages have held relatively steady since February, according to Kaiser.

Despite a sizeable portion of voters expressing dislike for the reform law, 57 percent disapprove of cutting off funding to stop its implementation, a finding consistent in Kaiser polls since January. These findings back up a poll conducted by The Morning Consult — a healthcare media company — in July that found 47 percent of registered voters say they will be less likely to vote for members of Congress who support shutting down the federal government if the PPACA isn't defunded.

Even among Republicans and those with an unfavorable view of the PPACA, 34 percent and 33 percent respectively disapprove of defunding it. Before the August recess, federal Republican lawmakers pushed for leaders in the House and Senate to not support a government funding bill unless it defunds the law.

Additionally, the Kaiser poll found Americans trust their physicians and nurses the most as sources of information about the law, with 44 percent saying they trust healthcare reform information from their care providers "a lot." However, only 22 percent of those surveyed had heard about the law from their physician or nurse in the past 30 days.
